The Prize: Life in a Jar

A certain somebody sucked Aunty into Pinterest. Thas' another story.

But I wanna give credit to a Pinterest post for this quote:

"Irena Sendler 1910-2008 A 98 year-old German woman named Irena Sendler recently died. During WWII, Irena worked in the Warsaw Ghetto as a plumbing/sewer specialist. Irena smuggled Jewish children out; infants in the bottom of the tool box she carried and older children in a burlap sack she carried in the back of her truck. She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto.

The soldiers wanted nothing to do with the dog, and the barking covered the kids’ and infants’ noises. Irena managed to smuggle out and save 2500 children. She eventually was caught, and the Nazis broke both her legs, arms and beat her severely. Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar buried under a tree in her backyard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived and reunited some of the families. Most had been killed. She helped those children get placement into foster family homes or adopted.Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize. She was not selected. Al Gore won- for a slide show on Global Warming."

How is it I ain't never knowed 'bout this amazin' lady? Thought y'all would like to know of her
too. As fer Al Gore? What a grim commentary on our culture that that buffoon won a Nobel Prize.

I will see the movie too an' hope it ain't over sentimentalized.

Sooo glad to see you on Pinterest. ;-)

I had no idea about this amazing woman either, so thank you for this. I think history is full of amazing people who shined during dark times and we need to keep the light on them.

good luck tomorrow! Give 'em hell.

Wow is right on this story. And some more professional yak yak? Aunty, are you going to be posting a link to the podcast? Would love LOVE to hear it. Or send by e-mail perhaps?? Glad to see you on Pinterest. It is my main hobby right now. Dont' know why I love what other people find interesting. It is like turning pages in a dictionary ... one thing leads you to another. Which is the best part of the internet, really.

Gorey Al never saved 2500 children !!!!
I no longer respect Peace prizers because they gave one to Al and OBummer both. Idiots.

I am thinking you could host a movie date for bloggers. May be we could all go see this movie on the same date and then have a blogfest on the subject. Maybe this could be run the way Boxer did her NYE for 2011?

Sorry about Pinterest, Aunty :o)

Never heard of this woman, either. Amazing story. I'll keep an eye out for the movie.

Hope your radio spot goes well tomorrow and that you dazzle them with brilliance!

Good evening Aunty Belle,

She, like so many other unsung heroes. Won't get credit for their actions, simply because they don't fit the media profile or have big dollars behind them.

Gee whiz, I sure would appreciate an e-mail link to the station. So I can hear your commentary.

Break a leg.

Never heard of her either! what an incredible story. It's amazing who they sometimes give that Nobel prize too.

That woman is far more deserving than Al "I invented the internet" Gore!
A long, long time ago (in a galaxy far, far away) I took a year long class called "The Nazis".
We studied every aspect of Hitler, Germany, WWII, etc.
I learned about many unsung heros who did what they could.
It reaffirmed my faith in humanity and the ability we have as humans to stare evil in the face and DEFY IT!

I hope you put up a link to the radio station; I sure would love to hear your radio program ... I need some real entertainment! =)

I do know this story and that Al Gore had won instead. Makes about as much sense as giving Obama a peace prize when he just got out of the gate and then goes on to become a symbol of anything but peace or justice or integrity.

its a cliche now (which says a lot) but it truly is an Orwellian world where everything is upside down: the false and banal is elevated and true humanity is met with indifference.

Pinterest. I love it! and I love your Holy the FIrm page.

for the radio thing, I have an idea. You could do a podcast as AUnty Belle! You could do it in cracka speak to disguise yourself. I would subscribe!

Aunty Belle Radio! Yes!

I get it Aunty.
No need to e'splain.
But now .... a cracka speak podcast as AuntyBelle?!
YES!

The movie came out in 2009 ... so I will have to look it up on Netflix.

I wouldn't have given it to Gore if he mutated and had six legs broken.

I did hear about Irene Sendler's story - when she died. I didn't know Al Gore beat her out of a Nobel Prize. The honorable thing for him to have done was either share the prize or at least give her a mention.

I did a little looking and at he time, over 2900 news outlets covered Al Gore; 107 covered Irene Sendler as a runner up.

The key, of course, is honor. Mr. Gore has none. I'm surprised Al Gore's ghost hasn't weighed in on this.

Can O'Worms with that radio mention, sweet pea.

I shall not pry.

... and I love Irena. Thanks for tellin' us about her.
More proof that dogs are infinitely superior to cats also.

Hi!
I think you should check the facts before you write about someone!! She was not German but Polish, her birth surname was Krzyzanowska .. here is a link
