Ash Wednesday

It's Lent, again. This time it sneaked up on me.

Trivia question: What are the ashes made from?

They are the burned palms from last years Palm Sunday procession.

Funny how nobody much seemed revved up by Mardi Gras this year.

Below are the opening lines from T.S. Eliot's poem, Ash Wednesday.

Because I do not hope to turn again
Because I do not hope
Because I do not hope to turn
Desiring this man's gift and that man's scope
I no longer strive to strive towards such things
(Why should the aged eagle stretch its wings?)
Why should I mourn
The vanished power of the usual reign?

I'll be taking The Pudge to get ashes tonight. We haven't discussed what we're giving up for Lent. I'm thinking XBox, but that will be a hard sell. Good luck with your resolve and deep thoughts.

Peace to you & Uncle.

Last years leftover Palm fronds.

Peace.

It crept on me too. When I saw the news photos of Mardis Gras I thought "what?"

Take care and (as always) you'll be missed. xoxo

Ah, it is well to have a quiet time now and again.

I had a little time to catch up with things this evening and just put a post on Artemis (http://artemispage.wordpress.com/) that might amuse Uncle. I hope he is continuing to do well.

If I could stand the humidity, Mardi gras would be my number one place I'd go. I'm trying to think of what I'd give up. Once I fasted on juice and water when I was a religious fanatic. I was sick and weak for a long time. I don't drink or smoke. Gave up archery once. I don't watch TV or eat sweets. I know, I'll quit staying up after midnight. I've been hitting four AM lately. Thank you for the inspiring entry.
