BACK PORCH: "Flesh eatin' bacteria ain't a fashion statement."
Theme this week is Best Actor of yore lifetime--an it ain't fair, cause they's way too many. But Gregory Peck is worth the lookin'. Y'all hop over to Milk River Madman to see what other folks done posted.
Aunty took Peck on account of his far rangin' abilities (think Cape Fear, North by Northwest The Scarlet and the Black) an' cause it seems to me he never let the pretty boy personality overtake him, like many others did.

Reckon anyone that was REAL young in the 60s when this came out an' who learnt of it later could identify wif' the kids, especially Scout. So in mah case, "lifetime" is very young lifetime. heh.
Aunty, you sweet southern belle you. Top five all time movies for me and Peck is fabulous in this.
Sidenote, Atticus Finch was voted "best hero" (or something like that) by the American Film Critics or some like institution. Well deserved IMO. Not humble IMO.
Amen, Aunty, amen.
And don't forget Duel in the Sun and The Boys From Brazil. Talk about not being typecast! I mighta thunk about Henry Fonda or Jimmy Stewart. How I loved Jimmy! And I had the biggest crush on Danny Kaye, though I'm not sure he'd make the top 10 Best Actor list. Then again, it's all subjective and 'best' could mean different things to different folks. See, ya got me all 'membertrippin' now. 8-}
Being of good cheer is an admirable goal, fer sher... these days I'm just trying my best to live up to Philippians 4:11. A lotta days, though, it's more like 'stop the world, I wanna get off'. If you can still stand some raucous music, listen to some of Skillet's new tunes. I'm feeding on Awake and Alive and Hero this week.
Fantastic choice. TKAM is probably a top three all time movie for me also. If only more folks could channel Atticus, this world would be a more honorable place.
I think Gregory Peck could have run for president - and won. My favorite Peck character (and a lot of people think he was mis-cast) was Captain Ahab in Moby Dick.
From hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee. Ye damned whale.
Happy MCW!
Excellent choice! You make a good point about those "pretty boy" personalities. too. I have a theory that good looks almost always overwhelm acting ability. Look at Brad Pitt. At his core, he's a brilliant character actor, but his looks keep throwing him into the leading man pond. And those performances are always lukewarm, at best.
Id totally forgotten about Greg Peck! He was really good and I like Moi says about Brad. I seriously considered him for my choice because of his performance in Twelve Monkeys and he was pretty funny in Snatch as well.
Dawgawn, Aint B! You really did get me thinkin'! All day, I've been tryin' to discomember a charcter actor I used to always say was way underrated. As I recall, he had dark hair and did a lotta westerns way back when... I'm gonna stew on this now till I figger it out. I can almost see him in my head.........
Ben Johnson! OK, I can go back to my life now. 8-]
i wear a t-shirt that reads
"atticus finch is my co-pilot"
and you know what? lots of people have no idea what it means.
were doomed aunty. doomed.
LOL
not really.
maybe
love us some gregory peckory
Good evening Aunty Belle,
Well, I'm late to the party again. What a great movie, it's still one of my favorites. Although I agree with Buzz, my favorite Peck role was Captain Ahab.
Where does one find a tee shirt that fits a dog?
love me some peck. what a great choice! i'd have to really think about it. i'm tempted to perhaps choose morgan freeman just cause he grew up in mississippi and still maintains roots there. plus, i have a photo of him that my eternally 12 year old 58 year old cousin sent me. It was of her and him .. :)
Oh, and he's not a shabby actor either.
