Really excellent "dead white men" pics. Enjoyed it a lot. Where do YOU think the 3 Wise Men came from, Aunty?

Happy Mute Monday!

These are some excellent travelers. A lot of them were one way trips. And Buzz Aldrin is not dead yet.

Happy MM!

Great take! Can you imagine the cojones it took for these folks to go crashing and bashing about the globe? It boggles my mind, esp. the theory that the Vikings made it to North American long before Columbus. And I'm cuckoo for Lewis and Clark. Great take. Happy Mute Monday!

Well, thanky y'all fer yore visits. I thought to make note of those whose brave travels changed history or our understandin' of our world. On account of them, our world is different than it might'a been had they not ventured forth!

Troll-Man,

ain't sure whar' them Wise Men came from. Tradition holds they's
from Parthia, Persia and Bactria...but we doan truly have much info--not even the real number of 'em--not necesarily jes' three of em (an doan'cha love Van Dyke's Fourth Wiseman story?) St. Matthew doan say Three Magi. Jes' "Magi from the East" but mebbe cause only three gifts is listed the idea is thar's only three magi.

Other sources list them as comin' from Indus (India) and Chaldea and Persia (Iran today). An lots of scholars seem to think nothin' much more than "east of the Euphrates River" can be said of 'em.

Good topic fer the season.

Brilliant take, Aunty, I never thought of Marco Polo and co! The three kings pic I was actually looking up bedouins and they came up so it seemed appropriate what with the season and all :) Happy MM x
