Whoa, what's with the devil dude? And why isn't Santa in there kicking his tail? I'm going over to get Billy Bob Thorton Santa over Boxer's Blog and import him over here to take care of bidness.
Hey, Big Shamu--
the devil dude tried to fight St. Nicholas fer the youn'uns ..'specially poor wee ones wif no mommies nad daddies after plagues...and he is the defender of young girls wif' no dowry--dropped sack of money down they chimneys so they din't have to marry some monster wif money. Thas' his first start--heppin' chillens wif big troubles.
He were the bishop of Myra Then Greek, now in Turkey) in 300 AD
Lovely St. Nicks! Happy MM, Aunty!
This was superlative! Makes me want to look up the real St. Nick.
Great job!
Happy Mute Monday.
These pics have a real Christmas card quality about them and not the cheap and nasty kind either. Which reminds me, I really must write mine out tomorrow.
Lovely St Nick pictures Aunty and a Happy MM to you.
St. Nicholas - definitely different than Santa Claus! ;-)
Lovely photos.
Happy MM.
I love the Saint Nicholas photos. Glad you used him instead of Santa! And yes, I'm sure next week will be a certain "T" who plays for Florida!!!
"I am Santa."
It should be a movement.
Really enjoyed this Aunty! Happy MM x
Aunty Belle,
Love that you chose to illustrate Santa Nicholaus rather than the modern day Santa. Beautifully done and Tis the Season for Joy!
I'm up at the Pond!
Happy MM
I'd take St. Nicholas over Santa Claus any day... it's not that I prefer the religious bent of St. Nick, it's just that I don't like the commercial and personal values of greed that Santa represents so completely.
What a good alternative to the Santa MMs we've had.
Happy MM.
Wonderful homage, Aunty! My mother, who was German, followed a tradition of her homeland with us. On the night before December 6th we put our "shined" shoes outside our bedroom doors with little notes to St. Nick inside, explaining how we were good for the year. In the morning, we'd find our shoes stuffed with candies and little presents. All that PLUS Christmas!
why is saint nick just standing there letting that child be abducted? why is he wearing a Papal Miter? and who is wencelas. and did you know that saint nick travels with a group of white squirrels? oh yes. look it up. google it. believe.
happy MM
My comment was lost to the winds earlier today, Aunty! But I'm back. I found some of these when I was working on my MM, but you went deeper and found even more/better. St. Nick is a lost Saint, lost/eclipsed by the commercialism of the Holiday. And now that I've been told he traveled with a pack of Squirrels? Why, I'm going to do even MORE research.
Happy MM!!
ps. the thought of you "poutin" is killing me. :-)
Course Santa travels with squirrels so he can feed the reindeer.
st. nicholaus ..
now, he was real ..
them white squirrels?
bah, humbug ..
they's more likely to be zombie squirrels if they are that white..
