Love this! Madame has so many meanings for women; good and not so good. ;-) I think I still prefer it over "ma'am". Madame Recamier is a beautiful painting.

Thanky. I onc't had a Madame Recamier style wicker chaise--I felt rather grande dame-sih stretched out on it...hee hee.

Hey Bear!
Monet painted several versions of Madame Monet.

Java Junkie,
ain't it a good bunch? I put the Croque Madame in jes' fer KArmic Kitchen!! Then thar's the roses and clematis named Madame this or that.

Cakey -Pie,
hey, yep, I thought the same wif' yore Misters---an ain't the second time we's sorta dovetailed on topics..heh.

Moi,
(still miffed you ain't mah new Presidentia) But ya see that vintage Madame Gres gown????

Iamnot,

youse crackin' me up! Most were confidants more'n playmates, ya know?

Troll-Man,
well, thar's a partial list at the end in tags...but each is a history lesson of her era in miniature. Madame Curie of course, is stellar. And Mde, Chaing Kai-Schek.

Sargent's famous paintin' MAdame X and the movie Madame X ...Madame Lebrun a famous lady painter ina self portrait...etc.
