War on Back Porch, Heah They Be's Socializin'

As I promised ya'll, I'se leavin' the BACK Porch for war talk (Round III: WAR IS GOOD...for EUROPE )contentious topics and the like...reservin' this heah Front Porch for more sociable talk cause it shur is fun to discover whar we'uns agree.

Today I'm meetin' a lady who is on a personal quest....this is sometimes what ladies call a mid-life-crisis. Her quest is to follow in the footsteps of one o' her heroes from the 16th century. So, she's a goin' to Spain wif a couple o' friends and leavin' work and kids at home.

Since I done this myself--traipse about in Spain--she's lookin' for suggestions. But Aunty B shur is interested in "personal quests". Seems lots o' folks is pursuing somethin' of no commercial value--more to their sense of self, or even discovery of self. I declare this is a healthy thang!

Seems ter me that whenever ya does something that connects to somethang beyond yore immediate needs, that ya grows...when ya pursue thangs that ain't about byuing or sellin, why, that is the reality ya most need.

So, let me rock heah a spell on this porch, keepin' an eye on the chillen' and ya'll stop by an tell me 'bout yore own personal quests, achieved or planned or still dreamin' to do. Shur is pleasant sittin' heah, wif the fragrance of the gardenia makin' the air so pretty. C'mon by fer a visit.

well heavens to betsy aunty belle - no one's dropped by yet to swap quest stories?

hmmmm...i just completed a major quest - my masters in english: composition. dropped off my finished thesis today to the campus publication folks - they will print and bind and place my thesis on the shelf in the library. woohooo! that was quite a quest - wore my little bird brain out.

so it's time for a new quest - and one that's not so externally, academically oriented. i may contemplate my navel, or travel, or simply walk the beach more often, collecting shells and documenting the life of a beach with my camera.

i love the view from your front porch.

quest ...

well not shur if this is really a quest. i sort of consider it a quest to discover myself. anyway ... the quest? two week ago i left him. now i can hardly wait to strike it out on my own again. i'm moving south. like, really really south (TN). so there ... i know its not romantic or fancy like travelling the world. but i suspect the discoveries i will make (they have already shown themselves) will be just as monumental.

Quest? Seems like this life is tough for real quests. What is worthy of a quest, anyway, that's my quest. To figure out why quest, and what is worthy of the effort.

I will not be questing for a Master's or moving south. Or moving much.

Found this site by accident. Now I have to think about myself which I do not want to think about. Maybe it was not an accident.

hey there anon- masters notwithstanding, the biggest, longest, most challenging quests i have made have all been inside - moving a matter of inches, or less.

my MA is merely an external manisfestation of an inner quest. that's all.

knock!knock!...

This is my first time around here and I sure like your front porch Aunty Belle...I'd sure love to sit here and just be...

My Aunt Clara didn't have flowers in her porch..infact, her porch smelled of Lysol...

And yes...I am in a quest myself...trying to find the whys....

but I think...living in the now kinda' fills up that question a little bit...just a little bit...

LuxLuVita! Why chile' welcome..of course yer can sit heah as long as ya please. The lemonade doan run out and the breeze is real fine in the evening...

The "whys" ...yes, puddi... that's a big one, but the present is a fine place to begin a quest, even if ya puts it off for some determined point in the future.

I knew a fella who was ingnorant on classical music...so he jes' started wif the alphabet and listend for a month to an composer...and in five years he was very learned...so I asked him what he leaned most? The merits of polyphony, or choirs or what? He said: "The merits of pursuing a desire a little bit each day for a few years...be it music or language or virtues."
